My project is a horizontal element, defined mainly by its interior longitudinal way, this element is low and its proportion is rectangular. The clients, The Ministry of Culture, have specified that they want an Art Museum that refers exactly to this type of spatial organization.
The Ministry of Culture wants an art museum to give the community a new tourist attraction. The museum will have a gallery designated to renowned photographers and a gallery for artists arisen from the nearby community. The intention is to motivate the community, so it feels like part of the exposition.
The museum will be located at the entrance street to the area, this way it will prolong the entrance axis. Also, it will be connected to two buildings, a cubic one and a vertical one, thus forming the space for a square. To enhance the entrance to the museum, the access door will face the square.
The museum will be organized en 5 different spaces. The first floor has double height, and it’s designated for photographers exhibitions. The second floor (3 meters tall) is for the exhibitions of artists from the community. The third one is for a photo library; at both ends it will have rooms for workshops about photography and visual arts.
Due to environmental needs, I decided to do the project in concrete and wall draft to permit the entry of light and air. This way there will be a contact with the outside and I’ll take advantage of the colonial context of the area. Because of the structure, light and air in the inside will travel along the floors, and the electric flow won’t be so indispensable during daytime.
This project establishes all types of roads and light sources that make the space dynamic and fresh, in addition to creating a place where the community can spend quality time and enjoy the exhibits.
